Qualifications & Personal Statement

Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) New York State

I allow the client’s body to direct the course of the massage instead of reproducing a standard treatment. In this way, the experience becomes a collaboration between the client and the therapist, and both experience the healing potential of the work. Trust is implicit in the client-therapist relationship. My work is therapeutic, never sexual or erotic, and physical boundaries are kept sacred. Using draping techniques which expose only the part of the body being treated, the client is encouraged to feel safe and secure at all times.

Massage Techniques

I employ a combination of techniques to provide the greatest overall therapeutic benefit. They include Swedish, Shiatsu, Medical,Deep Tissue, Sports and Trigger Point Therapy. Following is a description of some of the techniques as well their physical and emotional benefits.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage employs a systematic treatment of passive manipulations to the body. The benefits of such manipulations are extensive. The immediate response is muscle relaxation. But the subtler benefits include the increased circulation of blood which nourishes the cells, increased flow of lymph which carries toxins away from the cells, and the stimulation of the nervous system. The client experiences these activities as the release of stress accompanied by a renewed feeling of wholeness and well-being.
Shiatsu

Chi is an ancient oriental term used to describe the life force—matter on the verge of becoming energy, or energy at the point of materializing. Chi flows throughout the body in channels called meridians which are associated with specific organs. I locate meridian points where the Chi is blocked and apply gentle pressure to release it. In this way, the body returns to its natural state of harmony. The client will experience a heightened sense of alertness and a greater abundance of energy.
Trigger Point Therapy

Unlike Shiatsu points, Trigger points are physical blocks or knots within the muscle. Headaches, chronic neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, and tingling or numbness in the hands or feet are common indications of Trigger Points. I will locate these points and apply sustained, but tolerable pressure until they are released. Along with a decrease of pain and an increase in range of motion, the client will experience a physical lightening as of a burden being lifted.
